>> Static cracking >> Description

What does it consist in?

The static cracking method consists in crushing of the replaced pipe by means of a crushing head (in case of brittle pipes) or cutting the old pipe by means of a cutting head with a rolling knife (in case of steel pipes). Then a new pipe of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) is driven into the free space that is left after the demolished old pipe. Preferably so-called core pipes should be used.

While crushing or cutting, the remnants and debris of old pipes are radially impressed into the surrounding ground of the revamped pipeline. This operation is possible owing to the expanding head that follows the crushing one.

When an expanding head with sufficient diameter is used the replacing pipe can be even of a larger nominal diameter than the replaced one (but no more than by two size grades).
